R Factor wins Green Business award

Resource Cumbria's R Factor recently scooped the Best Green Public Sector Campaign Award (sponsored by Yell - the online version of the Yellow Pages) at the prestigious Green Awards for Excellence in Creativity in Sustainability.

Launched in 2006 to critical acclaim, the Green Awards were set up to recognise and reward creative work that communicates the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility, sustainable development and ethical best practice in any sector and across any marketing discipline.

In the four years since its inception, the awards have become an established event on the global eco-calendar highlighting the best examples of green marketing and sustainability communications that have made a real difference in the fight against global warming.

Public service advertising campaigns are often memorable and can make a measurable difference in our society. It is commonly defined as "advertising that serves the public interest".

The R Factor challenged Cumbria's primary school children to write, rehearse and record a "Song for Cumbria" that would promote the 3R's: reduce, reuse and recycle. Over 3,500 children from 137 schools submitted entries and the winning schools in the north and south of the county had their songs professionally recorded and aired across the county on local independent radio.

Iain Patton, Green Awards Founder said "With less than a month to go before the crucial climate change talks in Copenhagen we're pleased to have hosted one of the largest gatherings of influential environmental experts and green celebrities to reward best practice and to make a commitment to a more sustainable future by engaging businesses, individuals and the media further around green issues".
