Waste issues are becoming increasingly important in the UK. In the past the waste management industry in the UK has traditionally pursued the cheapest method of waste disposal, known as Landfilling.
Landfilling is the disposal of refuse in large holes in the ground. The geology and old mining practices have resulted in landfilling being used to a large extent in the UK.
However, the number of void spaces which are suitable for landfilling have dramatically reduced, and coupled with a more sustainable conscience, the reliance of the UK on landfilling needs to be reduced.
