Cumbria County Council on behalf of Resource Cumbria has a team of 4 full time Waste Education Officers who are pleased to offer advice support and practical services to Cumbria's education and community sector. Our Waste Education Team possesses a wealth of waste reduction experience and knowledge which we offer to Cumbrian schools and community groups in the form of well-organised presentations, activities and practical sessions. We can either suggest a series of general waste awareness sessions for you or we can work with you on any bespoke project your schools may become involved with. The type of activities and support our team currently delivers include:
For pupils
We can deliver interactive presentations and assemblies based on the 3Rs of reducing, reusing and recycling. We offer a series of specialised classroom sessions such as waste auditing, practical games or even compost bin 'life' investigations using a state-of-the-art electronic microscope and projector. All of our sessions are health and safety assessed and we provide all of the equipment necessary for pupils to take part.
For staff
We are happy to deliver training sessions to your teaching staff on the 3Rs to ensure they have sufficient knowledge to confidently incorporate the subject into lesson plans. We are also able to come in and talk to administrative staff on sustainable procurement and other waste reduction measures.
Work with School
Our team is happy to help and support you through your Eco-Schools application and accreditation process.
Every service that we provide is, of course, completely free of charge.
