At school
Reduce
Introduce e-mail distribution of newsletters to parents and post other information on your school`s website.
Encourage children to stay for school lunches. Packed lunches often contain overly packaged foods.
Reuse
Use both sides of the paper when writing, drawing or photocopying. Set up a collection tray in each classroom for paper that`s only been used on one side.
Reuse old card, coloured paper and glossy magazines in artwork
- Hold a car boot sale or toy swap and raise money for your school.
Recycle
Set up a system for collecting used paper from classrooms and offices and taking it to the main recycling bin at the end of each day or week.
Collect old aluminium cans (e.g. by putting a bin next to drinks vending machines). Your school could make money from them!
Bring old copies of Yellow Pages to school for recycling - you can get environmental educational materials in return!
Set up a composting scheme to get rid of everything from grass clippings to tea bags. Resource Cumbria can provide
composting bins to schools free of charge.
