Cumbria Master Composters

Master Composter

We now have our own Master Composter Volunteers who help us to promote the benefits of home composting. They are available to help if you have any questions or need advice on composting.

What is a Master Composter

Master Composters are volunteers who encourage people in their local community to start composting at home and offer support to people who are already home composting.

Becoming a Master Composter is a great way to meet new people, learn valuable skills and benefit from being part of a team that makes a difference.

If you are interested in becoming a Master Composter, please send us your details by emailing

How Can Master Composters Help You?

There are lots of ways that Master Composters can help including giving a talk to a local community group or a presentation to your local school. They can attend an event with an interactive display or give you advice by email, phone or face-to-face.

Could You Be a Master Composter?

Have you got time to spare? Do you like chatting to people and more importantly are you passionate about composting or keen to learn about it? (No previous composting experience is necessary as full training is given). If the answer is a resounding YES perhaps you would you like to become a Cumbria Master Composter?

Anyone over the age of 18 can become a Master Composter; you don`t need to be a composter already or have any volunteer or community group experience. We run induction training courses for new volunteers through the year. Training is delivered by Garden Organic, is free and will provide you with all the information you will need to help people start or continue composting at home, from methods of composting, what to put in your compost bin, the mini beasts that you find in your compost, the volunteer experience and much more. As a volunteer we ask that you undertake 30 hours of volunteer work over the following year promoting home compost.

So if you are interested in attending the next training course and becoming a Master Composter email or call the Co-Ordinator`s on 07391 082073 or 07391 082074.
