Watch out for rubbish researchers

Researchers will be pounding pavements and knocking on doors across Cumbria in order to investigate the county`s recycling and rubbish habits.

The aim of the exercise is to gather information about people`s habits and attitudes to help the Recycle for Cumbria campaign being run Resource Cumbria - the strategic waste partnership between Cumbria County Council and all six district councils.

The researchers will be going door-to-door asking people their opinions on a range of recycling issues across all districts throughout November.

The researchers are from a specialist company called Enventure. All their staff will carry identification cards and will be wearing Enventure uniforms. The police are also aware of the operation.

Jack Richardson, county council cabinet spokesman on recycling and chairman of Resource Cumbria, said: "We are asking people to take a few minutes to answer a some simple questions if the researchers come calling on them. We need everyone`s help to understand what people think and how they behave so all the local authorities in Cumbria can do their bit to provide the right opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle their rubbish."

Researchers have already been looking into how people use kerbside recycling schemes and recycling centres around the county. The latest phase of door-to-door research will last until the end of November.
